Top Beauty Picks for Natural Based, Non-Toxic Mascaras

There's nothing like a little mascara to make a girl feel beautiful. Unfortunately, most people don’t know that many mascaras contain very dangerous chemicals. If you go to the Skin Deep Cosmetic Safety Database and search for example, "Maybelline Great Lash Mascara", my old favorite!  You know the one with the pink and green tube?

If you look at the ingredients a little closer, you'll find it contains quaternium-15, which is linked to allergies, irritation and formaldehyde contamination, and triethanolamine, linked to immunotoxicity, organ system toxicity and nitrosamine contamination. And all the ingredients are required to be listed. That's just the begining. Unfortnately, now this is the norm for department store and drugstore makeup.

I don't know about you but I'm not comfortable with putting all these toxic chemicals near my eyes. Athough toxic mascaras have pretty packaging and can perform well, your better off safe than sorry by switching to a brand that is low on the toxic chemicals and contains all natural ingredients. Here are my top picks for natural based mascaras. If you found a natural mascara that works well and not listed below, please leave me a comment.

Tarte Cosmetics Lights Camera Lashes Mascara

Tarte's Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-In-1 Mascara is one of my top five staples!  A cult classic for over a decade.  This best selling, high performance, natural based mascara is considered a push-up bra for your lashes.  It's a 4-in-1 (lengthening, curling, volumizing, and conditioning) plus it's dermatologist and clinically proven to increase the appearance of lash volume by 330%.  Don't we all want that

Josie Maran Black Oil Mascara
Josie Maran's new creation is a full treatment for lashes and clinincally proven to increase the appearance of your lashes by 10x!  I love it because it's 91% natural, contains argan oil and is 24-hour wear.  It also conditions as it coats, lengthens, volumazes, lifts and curls your lashes!  Black Oil Mascaara treats your lashes with 100% Pure Argan Oil mixed with blackest-black iron mineral pigments, and is infused with the lash strengthening properties of bamboo - delivered in an innovative 5 ball brush that reaches every lash.

Jane Iredale Longest Lash Mascara
Jane Iredale Longest Lash Mascara is formulated with conditioning algae extracts, instead of water, and cellulose fibers for thickness.  This mascara doesn't contain any harsh chemicals, doesn't clump or smudge and thickens lashes as it conditions them.  It also provides you with the highest quality brush for even application and separation of lashes.

Lavera Volume Mascara
Lavera Volume Mascara adds lasting volume and length to lashes for beautiful, bright eyes! Nourishing extracts of Organic Jojoba and Wild Rose oils deeply hydrate allowing flake-free volume throughout the whole day. This pure, paraben-free and heavy-metal-free formula rinses off with a mild cleanser and is ideal even for very sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers.

Honeybee Gardens Mascara

Honeybee Gardens Mascara Truly Natural is a truly natural mascara!  The silky, lash-defining mascara is totally weightless yet provides all day color. The smooth light-as-a-feather base boasts zero clumping due to the absence of clay in the superior lash-conditioning formula.  So you can happily bat your eyes and flutter your lashes without flaking and smudging. Perhaps best of all is that this botanically-enriched mascara is paraben free. Water-resistant and work-out proof!  Who could ask for more?

These mascaras don’t cost that much more than department store or drug store brands and in some cases their cheaper!  The reason I love natural based, chemical free mascaras is because they condition your lashes and won't burn your eyes if the mascara happens to get in your eyes while applying.  And I feel good about what I'm applying to my eyes.  They are also perfect for contact lens wearers :)
