Lemons are a great natural beauty gift but most people don't know how beneficial they really are. Which is what lead me to add this post on the blog about how you can use lemons in your beauty routine and save money at the same time. Sure, you can use them for cooking, in your water and tea for detox benefits but what about as a beauty treatment?
Lemons are pure, from mother nature and pretty amazing! They're great for skin conditions such as acne, scars and oily skin but you can also use them to add beautiful, natural highlights to hair and whiten your teeth too. You might be surprised at the results mother nature can provide and using natural alternatives like this will save you a lot of money too. Make sure you're buying organic lemons so you get the maximum beauty and nutritional benefits.
Heal Acne
Lemons heal acne and remove blackheads! Lemons antibacterial and antifungal properties make them a natural alternative to treat acne. Simply slice open a lemon and rub it across your face. Or add a few drops of honey to a lemon half before applying it directly to the area where you have blackheads. Wait five to 10 minutes before rinsing off with cold water.
Lighten Dark Spots
Lemons can lighten dark spots and blemishes. Lemon juices citric acid gradually fades spots and evens out skin tone. Be sure not to apply to open wounds or cuts on the face, it can really sting!
Whiten Teeth
Professional teeth whitening treatments can cost a fortune. Save yourself a lot of money and time with a homemade teeth whitener using baking soda and lemon juice. Mix the two ingredients into a bubbly solution and put onto your teeth with a Q-tip. Leave on for no more than one minute (the acid is strong enough to break down tooth enamel) and gently scrub off with a toothbrush.
Banish Oily Skin
Tried, tested and true - lemons are a natural exfoliator and help banish oily skin. Swipe a cotton swab with a little lemon juice before bed and washing your face.
Brighten and Highlight Hair
Lemons can brighten and add natural highlights to your hair color. The cheapest highlights you'll ever pay for involve making a trip to the grocery store to buy lemons. Just combine lemon juice and hair conditioner, comb through strands, sit in the sun for a few hours and wash out. Or add equal parts lemon juice to water in a spray bottle and spray and brush through hair before you go outside. Repeat these steps at least once a week, and you will notice that your hair is significantly lighter and brighter.
Dry Scalp and Dandruff
Massaging a combination of organic virgin coconut oil, olive oil and raw honey with lemon juice onto your scalp is an easy and effective solution for dry scalp and dandruff.
Soothe Chapped Lips
Another overnight beauty treatment that only requires slicing open a lemon is an exfoliant for chapped lips. Rub the fruit onto your pucker, then wash off the next morning. The lemon juice will remove any dead skin cells so that your lipstick goes on super smooth.
Cleanse Face and Body
If you're unsure about what's lurking inside your favorite face or body wash, you can always be certain with a homemade cleanser made out of lemon juice, yogurt and an essential oil like lavender or chamomile. Massage this on to remove dirt and bacteria, while moisturizing your skin at the same time. You can also use a little lemon juice and water combo as a great facial cleanser.

Indeed! This is already included on my daily skin care routine. At night after cleansing my face, I dab a cotton on my lemon juice then gently apply it on my face. Big help with my oily, acne-prone skin. Amazing!
