Natural Ways to Fight Acne

Acne is a disorder that causes skin eruptions and inflammation.  It usually occurs during the adolescence/teenage years and is suffered or endured by nearly 90 percent of the teen young population.  Acne is also quite commonly seen in adults.  The increased production of the Testosterone hormone and natural oils in the body during the teenage years is responsible for the formation of pimples. 

A variety of factors such as stress, psychological disturbances, and irregular living habits can also bring on Acne.  Acne skincare with harsh, drying chemicals can actually make acne worse and dry out skin.  Tea Tree Oil, Aloe Vera, Zinc, and Vitamin A are natural products you can use to help clear up Acne. 


Tea Tree Oil is obtained from the Melaleuca alternifoliais tree from Australia. It is very effective against Acne as it contains bacteria-fighting substances called Terpenes. Acne is often caused by bacteria and the Terpenes either outright kill them or weaken them enough to be destroyed by protective antibodies.

Aloe Vera Gel is also a highly effective natural cure against Acne. The enzyme-rich gel has very soothing anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. It can also be taken internally and helps clean up and detox the digestive tract. This in turn can help clear up the skin.

Zinc is taken in the form of capsules.  It helps to strengthen the human immune system and to repair the skin.

Vitamin A capsules are also a natural and effective Acne cure.  Vitamin A promotes healthy skin.

Vitamin E also helps in countering Acne. It is a natural antioxidant and beneficial for the skin.  Vitamin E comes in soft gelatin capsules that contain Vitamin E, Soybean Oil, Glycerin, and Water.

The most important thing to do if you suffer from Acne is to drink at least six to eight, eight oz. glasses of water everyday.  Include lots of fresh fruit and leafy green vegetables in your daily diet.  Try adding a fruit or vegetable to each meal or at snacktime to ensure your getting the daily allowance.

Avoid touching your face and keep your hair away from your face as much as possible.  Avoid picking at pimples unless their on the surface of the skin.  If you do pop a pimple, make sure you wash your hands before touching your face thoroughly and wash your face immeditely afterwards.

Vita C Elixir does everything it says it does.  I noticed a more even skintone and felt really refreshed after using this product.  It's perfect for travel and fits right in your purse.  It's great for summer or winter seasons because it's also a spray, so you can spritz and go!  It is very light and refreshing and is perfect for all skin types.  This product did not cause any skin reactions and I highly recommend this one.




Ageless Elixir

Ageless Elixir is similar to the Vita C Elixir because it's a light, refreshing spray that you can take with you on the go, only it's designed for ageing skin.  I really noticed a different in the way my skin looked.  It looked more even toned and my fine lines were less noticable.  This product did not break my skin out or cause any negative reactions and I highly recommend it for dry, mature or ageing skin.

What could be better then natural shaving products that are good for the skin, wallet and the earth?!  San Francisco-based Pacific Shaving Company has been developing natural personal care products (for men and women) that are good for the skin, good for the wallet, and good for the earth since 2002.

Herpes and E. Coli Found in Beauty Testers

Ladies, beware next time you go to the beauty counter!  Sharing makeup– even with your closest friends– isn't the wisest idea to begin with, never mind an entire mall. Which is why we weren't surprised that makeup testers at beauty stores were found to be virtual germ incubators– think herpes, pink eye, and E. coli. The L.A. Times reported that those were just some of the serious infections found nesting in communal makeup brushes.

Dr. Zein Obagi, a Beverly Hills-based dermatologist, explains to the paper, "If a woman has a cut on her lip and borrows lipstick from someone who has a cold sore, she'll get a cold sore. You can pass herpes [the cold sore virus], conjunctivitis [pink eye] and all sorts of things through sharing makeup."

While this may be an extreme case, the amount of bacteria one is susceptible to when sampling makeup is astounding. The article cites a two-year study from Rowan University on public makeup testers. Conducted by Dr. Elizabeth Brooks, the study found that on an average Saturday, 100 percent of the makeup at cosmetic counters was tainted with staph, strep, and E. coli bacteria. (Just a friendly reminder, but E. coli is normally associated with feces).

Now that we’ve completely grossed you out, there are some solutions (if avoiding makeup testers proves to be too difficult for you). Instead of makeup brushes, Brooks suggests using disposable applicators, which most counters carry. As for the actual makeup, Brooks insists, “clean the surface of the makeup tester with a tissue or a tissue dipped in alcohol before applying makeup.” While these solutions may reduce the chance of infection, the safest way to stay healthy is to avoid communal testers completely.
